Academic curriculum

Programme Description

The program consists of the following blocks: foundation courses, general business courses, specialization business courses, elective courses. The teaching methodology focuses on a combination of

• Lectures to provide the necessary theoretical knowledge required;
• Seminars including interactive discussions where students can apply the theory in practice;
• Team work Enabling small group works, student projects and presentations, case studies and other business problem related issues to develop synergy;
• Electives In addition to Business, Economics and Social science elective courses, students are also offered the possibility to study foreign languages as per their choice.

Structure of studies

Academic schedule and exams

The academic year:

The academic year consists of two semesters. Semesters are divided into a term-time and an examination period. The term-time is 15 weeks; the examination period lasts for 6+1 weeks where the 7th week is a retake examination period. The program is taught entirely in English.

Examinations: Students should complete all term assignments and obtain the practical course marks before the examination periods starts. Examination dates are assigned by the departments within the examination period according to the Academic and Examination Regulations of the University.

Electronic education environment:

The University of Szeged offers an overall electronic education environment for its students according to the e-Universitas project. The electronic environment supports instruction, communication, and administration associated with teaching, studying and student life.

In this environment, the first element is the ETR (United Study System) which is the primary and official database providing the students with class and course information as an e-study report and is the platform to sign-up for courses and exams.

The second element of the education environment is the CooSpace which supports the direct communication channels for the community of students, teachers, and administrative staff. In its scenes every member can share custom profiles, post files, share other class information, and distribute online surveys or signup sheets for different activities. The third element is the MODULO system where students can manage their administrative propositions (e.g. credit transfer) without any bureaucracy, can follow their e-sheet petitions via internet and can get the competent committee’s decision forthright.

Assessment of student performance can be carried out according to:

• a five-grade scale: excellent (5), good (4), satisfactory (3), pass (2), fail (1)
• a three-grade scale: excellent (5), satisfactory (3), fail (1)

Thesis and graduation requirements

Pre-degree certificate:

The University issues the pre-degree certificate to students who have fulfilled the curriculum by completing the required practical courses, internship, and have earned the required number of credits (except writing the degree thesis). The pre-degree certificate does not provide qualification or vocational qualification.

Thesis:

At the end of the programme, a degree thesis has to be submitted. The Faculty approves the topic, prescribes content requirements, also will give the general considerations for evaluation and the deadline for submission. The thesis has to be worked out under the guidance of an appointed teacher and must be defended in front of the Final Examination Board.

Internship:

In the course of the program, students will achieve a 14 week internship in a freely chosen company where they will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in corporate life.

Final examination:

The final examination is to test and assess the knowledge, skills and abilities required for awarding the diploma. Having acquired the pre-degree certificate, students can register for the final examination. The final examination consists of two parts: the defense of the degree thesis and an oral examination.
